This lovely set of vintage scales date to circa 1910/1920's and would have been used in a English grocers shop for weighing out flour and loose pantry goods.
The scales are made by the classic British brand Salter and are black with the original enamel advertising pan.
The pan is a real showstopper, original enamel with the original Homepride advertising lettering to the pan 'Use Homepride Self Raising Flour' in black lettering on a white background. The base of the pan is a lovely english racing green enamel. The pan is held steady by a magnet to the base of the scales.
The face of the scales is in rustic worn condition, there is a lot of surface patina and wear and rust. These scales would have probably been used as a promotional item in the grocers for Homepride flour.
The base is black and tarnished brown and has some wear with some rusting however this just adds to the patina in our opinion. These scales are being sold as decorative purposes only, we do not know how accurate they are.
A wonderful piece of English advertising history!
Would look fantastic on a kitchen windowsill or dresser!!
